Inez Brings Style Inspiration from a Film

Our Guest Blogger, Inez from our Guadalupe location, shares with us Style Inspiration from a Film.

While the film itself is pretty good (in a sad poetic, rainy day sort of way), my favorite part of the movie has always been the styling. Based in 1940′s Wales for the second half of the movie, Vera and Caitlin (played by Keira and Sienna) settle into rustic farmhouses & discover a friendship that is, to say the least, complicated. But the wardrobe sported during their time in Wales is adorable and feminine. The Wellies add a touch of edginess to the whole attire, but mainly the outfits themselves include many floral dresses and skirts, cardigans, Lennon sunglasses, and fedoras; and you can find all of those items at the Strut nearest you. Here are some ideas I came up with:

Cardigan $36

Dress $36

Sunglasses $10

Dress $36

Blouse $29

Skirt 36

Music Monday – The Preservation

This week we wanted to give it up for one of our own. South Congress STRUT’s Cayce Matteoli’s band The Preservation is going on tour soon, and if you haven’t seen them I would highly suggest checking them out before they are off spreading their sound all over the country for a while.  The Preservation is a local band describing themselves as Cosmic American Music from the Heart and they are right. With a unique indie folk sound and hints of Sixties psych-pop it hits you pretty quickly that this is a band that puts a lot of love in their work.

Checkout  The Preservation with their debut full length album Two Sisters

Don’t miss their show at Lamberts February 24

Sara’s Celebrity Style Guide

Hi everyone!

It’s Sara, from our South Congress location.  I’m so excited to be the guest blogger this week!  Today I want to offer you inspiration for developing your own personal style.  Often, when looking into my closet, I think, “I have nothing to wear.”  But it is so easy to find inspiration from the wardrobes of celebrities.  The styles I am showing you today have a wide range and can be combined to make your own unique look.

(All sunglasses featured are $10 and jeans are $59 unless otherwise noted.)

For a retro, romantic, and feminine style, we can take inspiration from actress Michelle Williams.

You can achieve this look by wearing basic shift dresses with floral and retro prints and details like peter pan collars, bows, or lace.  The Retro Romantic keeps her look minimal but accessorizes with vintage inspired pieces including knee-high socks, delicate jewelry, and dainty handbags or clutches.  She completes her look with oxfords or Mary Janes.

For a more structured and polished look, we can look to the classic, sophisticated style of Katie Holmes.

You can achieve this look with button down tops, cardigans, pencil skirts, T-shirt dresses, and tailored jeans.  The Classic Sophisticate often wears solid colors with minimal prints.  However, she can be seen in classic polka dots or stripes.  Her accessories are simple charm necklaces, pearls, and a basic everyday watch.  The Classic Sophisticate would have a neutral, everyday bag like a satchel or hobo.

If you want a style that is more boho or “hippie,” you can find great inspiration from style maven Nicole Richie.

You can get this look by wearing maxi dresses, flowy tops, cut off shorts, oversize sunglasses and head accessories like floppy hats and headscarves.  The Boho Beauty leans toward clothing with a relaxed fit, unique print, or interesting details like crochet or braiding.  Her jewelry is often one of a kind, handmade, or vintage inspired.  She carries a large shoulder bag or a simple, small cross-body bag.  Typically, she wears comfortable shoes like flats, boots, or sandals.

If you’re looking for a style with a bit more oomph, actress Blake Lively has the perfect look to inspire you.

This attention-grabbing style is easy to attain with body hugging garments with sheer or cutout details and bright colors.  The Bombshell is not afraid to show off her curves or show some skin.  Even her jewelry, like dangling earrings and short necklaces, draws the eye to the bust line.  The Bombshell knows the best way to accentuate her great legs is with short hemlines and dramatic stilettos or platform pumps.

A look even more dramatic can be seen on singer and trendsetter, Rihanna.  Her approach to fashion may borrow from other styles but is a look all her own.

For this look, you should try mixing colors, prints, or textures.  This look is for you if you stay up to date with trends, while setting your own, and follow the belief that more, really is more.  The Wild Child pushes boundaries with animal prints and ever-changing hairstyles and loves accessorizing with eye-catching jewelry like large earrings, layered bangles, or funky, fun necklaces.   Her handbags are embellished with details like fringe, sequins, and studs.  This look includes shoes from thigh high boots to glitter heels.

So next time you’re needing some wardrobe inspiration, look to your favorite celebrities, and let us at STRUT help complete your look.

Until next time,

Sara

Music Monday Whitney Houston

By now we all have probably heard the heartbreaking news of Whitney Houston’s death.  During the 80s and 90s, Whitney Houston was an unstoppable force. Many of us grew up to her music.  We at STRUT just wanted to pay our respects to one of our favorite artists, with her song “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”

About Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston was born to a family with impressive singing credentials – her mother was gospel singer Cissy Houston, her cousin was five-time Grammy winner Dionne Warwick, and her godmother was the ‘Queen of Soul’ herself, Aretha Franklin. Her first break came when she sang backing vocals on Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman” when she was only 16. She continued to record, sing and tour with her mother, but although she was offered recording contracts she turned them all down until, in 1983, she signed with Arista.

Houston is the only artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits

Houston’s first acting role was as the star of the feature film The Bodyguard. The film’s original soundtrack won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Its lead single “I Will Always Love You”, became the best-selling single by a female artist in music history. With the album, Houston became the first act (solo or group, male or female) to sell more than a million copies of an album within a single week period.

Cayce’s Guide to Valentine’s Day Fashion

Hi!  I’m Cayce from our South Congress location.  I’m really excited (and honored) to be the first blogger of our employee guest blog series.  Since Valentine’s Day is a week away, I thought I’d give y’all some ideas for some rockin’ outfits for the 14th no matter what your plans are.

This number would be absolutely *perfect* for a day date, or lunch with your lady friends.  The small amount of lace gives the right amount of sweetness, while the braided suede belt gives the outfit a subtle edge.  Love it!

These two outfits are great for an evening date.  The heart blouse is so adorably feminine, and paired with the high-waist shorts, all the right curves will be accentuated :)

And who doesn’t need the perfect LBD?  This one is perfectly paired with some really cute accessories that help make this dress (and you) stand out in a crowd!

If your plans are to hang out with your girls next Tuesday, this look is right up your alley.  The lace top is a gorgeous and girly way to strut your stuff.  This necklace mirrors the lace’s rough edging with its tassle bottom and (Cupid’s) arrow details.

Here are some other item you can find in our store to spice up whatever you choose to wear this Valentine’s day:

Hope your Valentine’s is rosy and fun!  You can check out my picture blog at http://girlwiththegoldenowl.tumblr.com

XO,

Cayce
